Sandeep Kotwal is an Indian civil engineer, educator, lyricist, producer, and writer based in Jammu & Kashmir. Known for integrating engineering precision, artistic creativity, and ethical discipline, he has over three decades of experience across hydropower, telecom infrastructure, and engineering education. His professional approach emphasizes zero failures, zero lost workday cases, and zero tolerance for integrity lapses in high-risk terrains, alongside a creative career with 38 official music releases.

Early Life

Kotwal was born in Bhaderwah and raised in Pul Doda, a ribbon-shaped settlement along the Chenab River in Jammu & Kashmir. Early exposure to the riverine Himalayan environment shaped his interest in responsible engineering and environmental stewardship.

Education

  • B.E. in Civil Engineering – B. N. College of Engineering, Pusad, Maharashtra
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Pollution Management – Environmental and Industrial Studies, India

Academic Career

Before full-time project management, Kotwal served as a faculty member in Civil Engineering at NITS, Jammu, teaching Structural Engineering, Surveying, Hydraulics, and Environmental Engineering. He mentored aspiring engineers with an emphasis on integrity, safety, and environmental responsibility.

Engineering Career

Hydropower

Over two decades, Kotwal contributed to complex Himalayan projects with an emphasis on safety, planning, and quality.

  • Dul Hasti Hydroelectric Project (generating) – contributed to dam structures and early TBM operations
  • Baglihar Hydroelectric Project (generating) – introduced precast beam technology on powerhouse walls; used mobile cranes for spiral case lowering to enable parallel civil and electro-mechanical work
  • Chuzachen Hydroelectric Project (generating) – led surface powerhouse works for twin dams converging into a single HRT
  • Kishenganga Hydroelectric Project (generating) – experience with Robbins and SEELI TBMs; ISO systems and planning
  • Panan / Himagiri Hydroelectric Project (under construction) – managed works under difficult Sikkim conditions; recognized for engineering precision
  • Fozal Hydroelectric Project (under construction) – quality and construction control under mentorship of K. L. Chugh
  • Dugar Hydroelectric Project (DPR completed) – field works completed within schedule in challenging Himachal conditions; team earned a performance recognition trip to the Maldives under the Tata Power–Statkraft JV; endorsed by Shivalik Engineering Consortium for planning and safety

Telecom Infrastructure

As State Construction Head for Reliance Jio (Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh), Kotwal oversaw strategic network rollout in extreme terrains.

  • Fiberized a 25 km NHPC tunnel in Gurez Valley (2018), making Jio the first private operator to reach the region
  • Executed USOF towers in Teetwal, Machil, Demchok, Mushkoo Valley, and Dangithal during the pandemic
  • Ensured connectivity along the Amarnath Yatra route and remote Himalayan locations
  • Maintained zero LWC across projects; received the Safety Award from Shehzan Hameed
  • Interviewed by actor Aamir Khan during Reliance Family Day for leadership at the Demchok site in Eastern Ladakh

Creative and Cultural Work

Kotwal’s creative identity blends generational chemistry and discipline. He defines his art as Magnetic Chemistry Across Generations (X, Y, and Z), merging Gen Z energy with Gen X depth.

  • Signature works: Jio Jio (IBR-recognized corporate anthem), Punjabi Sena, No Play, O Kudiye, Zorawar Singh
  • Notable songs: Rang Bhaderwah De, Pul Doda Te Chenab, Cycle, Maa Baap, Aashirwaad, Amar Safar, I Am the One, Brand, Raah-e-Noor, Zindagi Ek Kahani, Naina Da Ki Kasoor Si, Spotlight, Karmshaalla, Badla Kashmir Chahiye, The Light of Gurez, Zorawar, Vasuki Naag, Crumbs of Heart, Woh Bachpan, and others
